24/06/2021 @ 6:00pm - free support group for South Asian Gay, Bi and Trans men living in the UK.

This group is funded by the Hatta Hodson Estate.

This Months Topic - Wellbeing from a South Asian perspective

Does the word 'wellbeing' mean anything to you? Is it a word that you heard when you were growing up or is there a different word that your family or friends used?

This month we'll be thinking about what keeps us well and if our South Asian heritage helps us stay well or gets in the way...

South Asian Men’s Group

South Asian cultures are complex and have their own queer history. Traditionally South Asian cultures are community focused and this can create different types of pressures and obligations on gay, bisexual and transgender men from these communities. In saying this, there are a lot of exceptions to this idea and attitudes continue to change.

The group will give you a positive space to think about these things from a personal perspective and without fear of judgement or discrimination.

About this Event

Research has shown that men from these communities experience loneliness and higher signs of mental distress. To try and tackle this we have started a peer support group for gay, bisexual and trans men.

The group is facilitated by Kuljit who is a British born gay man of South Asian heritage. Kuljit will create a safe space for people to explore issues related to their gender and sexuality from the perspective of race and ethnicity.

Who Is This Event For?

Gay, bisexual, trans men who live in the UK who have South Asian heritage. You are expected to have your video camera turned on so that people can see who they are talking to.

What To Expect?

The event is facilitated and usually starts with some introductions and some small group work. In our virtual groups we do this using breakout rooms. We then use a bigger group discussion to explore things in a bit more depth.

You're welcome to spend more time listening than speaking and you are not expected to tell us about your sexuality or gender unless you want to.

At the end of the event you will be asked to fill out a quick anonymous survey to help us improve for our next event.

How to join

You will be sent the Zoom sign in instructions on the day of the event so keep an eye on your email.

If you want to find out more, or want to have a phone or video chat before attending the group then you can contact Kuljit at [email protected]
