Gay Authors Workshop

The Gay Authors Workshop is a longstanding, nationwide organisation of LGBT writers and authors, founded in 1978. They meet monthly to knock individual writing projects into shape, by reading works-in-progress aloud to the group for feedback and suggestions.

For their membership, around 65 members receive a quarterly newsletter (which they can submit to for publication), listing the times and locations of the group's gatherings.

The group meets in people's homes, generally in Greater London. Sometimes hosts provide food, otherwise guests each bring something along.

In addition to monthly meetings, the group carries out writing related projects. It also publishes an irregular story magazine called Gazebo (sold at "Gay's The Word" bookshop in Bloomsbury and "Housman's Books" in King's Cross).

Gay London Writers

Gay London Writers, founded in 1993 when Peter Slater placed a postcard on the notice board in Gay’s The Word, is flourishing. In addition to the fortnightly meetings, where work in progress is read and discussed by an increasing number of contributors, the group has been making a significant impact in most areas of writing.

The last couple of years have been particularly fruitful with the publication of critically acclaimed and commercially successful novels and short fiction, a presence in quality poetry magazines and the spoken word scene, short listed and award winning plays, experiments in freelance publishing, and journalistic work in a variety of gay and mainstream outlets.
