GMFA News – August
The RVT/GMFA Sports Day
The
RVT/GMFA Sports Day takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, 25 August in Spring Gardens,
Vauxhall (behind the Royal Vauxhall Tavern). The event runs from 1pm to 6pm and the
Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Angela Meader, will be there to give the event the grand
opening it deserves at 2pm.
The event promises to be a great day out, so why not come along and watch the fun? Better still, why not give GMFA a hand and get involved in one of two ways:
1. Enter a team...
With a mix of light-hearted events such as the egg and spoon, the handbag throw and the drag relay, you don't have to be a professional athlete to compete or even to win. As with last year we want each team to ask as many people as they can to sponsor them for taking part. There will again be a trophy for the winning team and also one for the team raising the most sponsorship. We still have places left for teams of five people to enter the event and help raise some vital money for GMFA. For more information, including details of how to register your team, go to www.gmfa.org.uk/sportsday. Remember that places for teams are limited and filling up fast, so if you do want to join in Sports Day then you’d better be quick...
2. Sponsor one of the Sports Day teams...
If you don't want to enter a team then you can always show your support for GMFA by sponsoring one of the teams taking part in Sports Day. Most of the money raised by each team will go towards helping GMFA continue its vital work for gay men's health. The event will also be raising money for Vauxhall City Farm and the Friends of Spring Gardens to help them continue their great work. To sponsor a sports day team online, go to www.justgiving.com/event/158060 where you'll see all the teams listed. Simply click on the one you want to sponsor to go to their fundraising page.
If you didn't attend last year's fantastic event then you can see a great video clip from the day at:

We hope to see you there!
Big Up at Outburst and UK Black Pride
A
few of us from Big Up will be attending the Black LGBT festivals this August.
We will be representing GMFA, getting people to complete our survey, looking for
new recruits, and hopefully having a good time along the way. Make sure you drop by
and say hi if you're attending either Outburst on Saturday 9 August or UK Black
Pride on Saturday 16 August. Hope you all have a fabulous time, and remember:
Enjoy Sex. Choose Health. Get Involved.
Take part in the Gay Men's Sex Survey 2008
The
Gay Men's Sex Survey is the largest annual survey of gay and bisexual men in the
world. The information that GMFA and other health promoters gain from GMSS informs
and motivates our work, ensuring that our efforts have the maximum impact in
preventing new infections and improving gay men's health.
Once again GMFA is working with Sigma Research to undertake this vital survey and we need your help.
Please complete the survey at www.demographix.com/surveys/3Y9Q-VHRX/7YYGT3TN/?gmfemail.
Even better – when you have completed it, forward this link to five other UK based gay men in your address book. The survey is completely anonymous and takes about 15 minutes to complete. About 10,000 men take part each year, so the survey is very good at identifying which groups of gay men have the greatest HIV prevention needs, and letting us know specifically what those needs are.
